"OUR HISTORY"

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Caboolture.

Bribie Island originated from four Rotarians, Roy Pierce, Lin Adams, Syd Gilchrist and Reg Day,
all living on Bribie Island and travelling the 25 kilometres to Caboolture each Monday night for the weekly Rotary Meeting.

They suggested that a club could be formed on Bribie.

Caboolture approved and the first "Interest Meeting " was held 7th January 1988.
The "Rotary International Extension Survey" and the "List of Interested Parties" was drawn up that night.

"Organizing Group" meetings were held on Jan 20, February 4th and with the "Required Number" of members signed up, a "Provisional Rotary Club" was declared.
The Rotary Club of Bribie Island was admitted to Rotary International on 18th March 1988 with 23 Charter Members.

First Projects were: P.A.C.E. Exchangee Wilfred Zambra from Madang from September to October.

Next will be an Youth Exchange Programme student Jennifer Wormley from Iowa, USA..

A Charity Golf day and Melbourne Cup day projects were both successful.

The "Welcome to Bribie Island" sign was completed with a Dale March mural instead as the original Matthew Flinders.

That was our first year and the good work is continuing.
